I can't say much about the capabilities of the slim/super-slim models since I've never owned one. Phat PS3s are the best for Linux because they can boot OtherOS natively (if you downgrade the firmware to 3.15 or lower). If you need a distro that you don't have to figure out how to build from scratch, I highly reccomend Fedora 12 - yes it's old but it is upgradable if you don't mind learning to compile the software yourself from source (its not super hard). One of my videos actually demonstrates T2 Linux ( ) installation - PS3 LINUX 2022 - T2 Install. I showcase the capabilities of Linux on PS3 on my Youtube channel The Model Citizen.

(I even use it for school work!) Mainly I use my PS3 as NAS on my home network also it is a web server hosting PS3LINUX.NET (my website - don't laugh, I know its basic - user interfaces are not my thing). I can honestly say it gets more use today as a Linux computer than it ever did as a game console. I use my jailbroke/downgraded PS3 for Linux pretty much every day (in 2022).
